This project included the demolition of two unused clarification basins and site preparation for the new Entergy electrical plant.
scope of work
The demolition scope included heavily concrete reinforced structure demolition, asbestos abatement, dewatering and underwater demolition, demolition of an existing piping system, pile removal, and mechanical equipment removal. The site preparation scope included the installation of 70,000 cubic yards of sand fill, 40,000 cubic yards of lightweight aggregate, and 11,000 tons of limestone. Underground detention systems, subsurface drainage, and an elaborate French drain system were installed. An existing building was converted to a new mud pumping station complete with a new structural concrete wet well approximately 20 feet deep. 1,300 LF of ductile iron mud discharge pipe (subsurface and wall mounted) was installed with dockside connection systems for dredge connection. Pumps were installed along with PLC, SCADA, and remote operations. Low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution and new fiber optic communication lines were added to the site. Historical restoration of an existing pump house exterior building envelope was performed, including strengthening the existing buildings’ roofs, installing hurricane shutters and louvers, and replacing architectural steel doors.
Once the new concrete foundation was installed and the roofing system shored to take pressure off the walls, the masonry walls were repaired with a combination of helical stitching and epoxy/grout injection. Rebar was installed against the existing wall and supported from the new foundation.
